Subscribe to the blog via email:

This one is easy-squeezy. Fill-in the form below and click the “Subscribe” button to receive an email every time a new episode of the podcast or a blog post is released. There is also a subscribe box at the bottom of each blog post. Oh, and as an added bonus, you’ll automatically be enrolled for any future contests or giveaways. Woo-hoo! And for the record, I’d never sell or give away your email address. If I do, you have my permission to train a vulture to eat my eyeballs out of their sockets.

This service is provided by Mailchimp. They won’t sell your email address either. Read their privacy policy here.

Subscribe to the podcast in iTunes:

Click here to go to the podcast in the iTunes Store and once there simply click on the “Subscribe” button. Or you can always just search for Trucker Dump in the iTunes Store when you get a chance. Either way, once you’re subscribed the latest episode will automatically download into iTunes. If you’re worried about Internet data caps, you can change this behavior in Settings (the files are rather small though):

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Find the “Podcasts” tab and click on it (location will vary depending on your version of iTunes).
  3. Near the bottom left of the window, click “Settings.”
  4. You can set the preferences for all podcasts or set them differently for each one in the “Settings for:” tab.
  5. The last two menus are where you control what happens to podcasts when it detects new ones and how many episodes to keep (if any).

You can listen to the podcast from within iTunes or by syncing it to your smartphone or mp3 player. If you don’t know how to sync to your device, Google it. There isn’t enough space on this Web site to cover all the variations.

Subscribe to the podcast without a computer:

There are a bunch of good podcasting apps for your smartphone. Some are free, and even the ones that aren’t are pretty dang cheap. So far I haven’t been able to find a free podcast app that allows you to click the links in the show notes, so if that’s important to you, you may want to fork over a little cash. Or you could just listen from the Web site and you’ll have all the links right there within the blog post.

As an Apple fan-boy, I’m only familiar with some of the iPhone apps. If you have a favorite podcasting app, shoot me an email at TruckerDump@gmail.com and I’ll add it to the list. For now, here are some recommendations from me and friends of the podcast:

For iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad:

  • Instacast – $4.99 – I’ve been using this app for a long time. I highly recommend it.
  • Downcast – $1.99 – This is the app all the geeks are raving about. If Instacast ever cheeses my taters, this is one I’ll use. It has more features than any other podcast app I’ve tried, but I find it to be a bit more confusing because of it.
  • Stitcher Radio – Free! – This app does Internet radio and selected podcasts. Streaming only. Search for Trucker Dump or Todd McCann from the app’s search bar.
  • TuneIn Radio – Free! – Like Stitcher, this app does Internet radio and selected podcasts. Streaming only. Search for Trucker Dump or Todd McCann from the app’s search bar.
  • TuneIn Radio Pro – $4.99 – Same functionality as the free version, but adds the ability to record and gets rid of the display ads. Search for Trucker Dump or Todd McCann from the app’s search bar.
  • Apple’s Podcasts app – Free! – Easy to find and subscribe to podcasts. It has limited features and some reported bugs, but hey, it’s free!
  • If you have a favorite podcast app for Apple mobile devices, email me now!

For Android phones and tablets:

  • Podcast Addict – Free! – Download or stream podcasts. The Trucker Dump podcast is not available in the Podcast Addict directory yet, but you can manually add a podcast by copy/pasting http://abouttruckdriving.com/truckerdump.xml into the app. Thanks to @w9xxx for recommending this app.
Steaming only.
  • If you have a favorite podcast app for Android devices, email me now!

For Windows phones and tablets:

  • Podcasts! -Free! – I know nothing about this app, but if Paul Thurrott recommends it, I trust it’s good.
  • If you have a favorite podcast app for Windows mobile devices, email me now!

For BlackBerry phones:

  • The BlackBerry Podcast app is the only one I know of for BlackBerry users. I have no experience with the app, so you’re on your own there.
  • If you have a favorite podcast app for BlackBerry, email me now!
